Here are few suggestions to the potential father to keep peace and harmony in the household.

1. Avoid showing concern towards your partners changing body shape. Giving remarks such as ‘I think you have put up too much weight’ will have negative effect on her and the unborn baby. In turn express your appreciation for her beautiful pregnant body as after birth, she will return to her normal shape.

2.If your partner expresses concern about her stretch marks, breasts size, increase belly size reassure her that they will improve after the baby is born. Be supportive; don’t suggest that you have been worrying about the same.

3. Sexual appetite of women during such time fluctuates. During the first trimester women have no desire or very less desire to have sex due to a combination of physical and emotional factors. The appetite for healthy sex comes back during second trimester, you can try different positions that do not place uncomfortable pressure on her womb.

4. Remember that everything may not unfold as you have planned. When she has to go for her regular check ups, go along with her and leave enough time so you are not late due to unanticipated delay.

5. Do not plan any out of town trips within one month of her due date.

6. Let your partner know that being there for her is your foremost priority.

7. Establish good relationship with your spouses’ health care provider and ask him or her the questions you have in your mind.
