• Rapid or excessive weight gain will make stretch marks worse.
Can stretch marks be prevented?
Unfortunately, there is not much that can be done to absolutely prevent stretch marks, though you can have some influence over stretch marks and can reduce their intensity.

• Stay well hydrated:
Keep yourself well hydrated by drinking lots of water, as it is imperative for the well being of both your child and you. It is also critically important for a healthy skin.
• Moisturize your body well:
Keeping your skin liberally moisturized will help in reducing the chances of stretch marks. It also aids in promoting the elasticity of the skin.
• Eat a balanced, nutritious diet:
Eating a well nourishing, diverse and a balanced diet is not only important for your growing baby but also contributes towards the strength and health of the skin.
• Watch your weight:
One can minimize the stretch marks by keeping the weight gain steady, gradual and moderate. Eat a diet that keeps your weight gain within recommended range.
• Over-the-counter products:
These days many formulations are available in the market claiming removal of stretch marks through their usage. Though they may help to an extent in promoting the natural elasticity, suppleness and moisture of the skin, the results may vary from person to person.
Common Home Remedies To Tackle Stretch Marks:
• Foods and creams rich in Vitamin K are believed to do the trick. Try including foods containing vitamin K like, green leafy vegetables, tomatoes, liver and dairy products in your diet.
• Applying lavender oil on the stretch marks three to four times a day help fade the marks.
• It is commonly believed that using creams enriched in Vitamin E, like Aloe Vera gels help to cure stretch marks.
• Applying cocoa butter during pregnancy may aid in alleviating the stretch marks.
• Eating seeds and nuts that contain zinc prevent stretch marks.
• Scrubbing the affected area with apricot scrub fades the marks.
• A frequent body massage with aroma oil also reduces the chances of stretch marks.
• Prepare a solution by mixing one ounce of carrier oil with seven drops of lavender and some drops of chamomile. Apply it on the affected areas.
• Mix 1/2-cup olive oil, 1/4-cup Aloe Vera gel, liquid from 6 capsules of Vitamin E and with liquid from 4 capsules of Vitamin A in a blender. Liberally apply the mix on the affected area. Store in the refrigerator for future use.
