Tips for planning:
1. Make sure the games are simple.
2. Have all games set up and ready to go before the party.
3. Get your child involved in the preparation.
4. Keep in mind kid's age and ability to understand rules of the game.
5. Birthday parties are a time to have fun. Hand over a candy or balloon to each child as a gift even when they loose.
Few fun games:
1. Pin the tail on the donkey:
One of the all time favorite games of children. Though pinning the tail of the donkey is an age old game, you can try new ideas according to your theme, like pinning the butterfly on the flower or pining the tail on the pikachu. Get creative!
Blindfold each child and give them each a try at placing the tail as close as possible to where its supposed to go. The one who is closest is the winner.
2. Guess how many?
Take a small jar and fill it with candies. Have kids write their name on a small piece of paper and their guess as to how many candies are in the jar.
The child who guesses the right number or comes closest, gets a sucker. The candy in the jar is then divided among the children. And, you can also give the jar to the child who wins the game,to take it back home.
3. Charades
Ask one child to come in front of the group and whisper the name of an animal or something to do with your theme, in the ear. Then the child will enact what the animal does. The rest of the kids will try to guess the name of the animal.
4. Musical chair
Set up a line of chairs, one short from the number of players and start the music. Everyone walks around the chairs and sits down once the music stops. The one who is left standing will be out of the game. Take away one chair so you are again short of one and start the music again. This continues until only one person has a chair. The last person who gets the chair will be the winner.
5. Catch the bubble
Start blowing bubbles. Ask children to catch them without bursting the bubbles. The first kid to catch a bubble and return it to you without busting their bubble wins.
6. Hula Hoop
This is great for children in a small group. You can play music to make it more fun. At the 'Go' signal, players begin 'hula hooping' as long as they can. If the hula hoop drops or players touch it with their hands, they're out!
