An infant during teething feels lot of pain, cry excessively, sleep less, drool constantly, acts more cranky, gets fussy with feeds, suck their fingers more and pulls or rubs the ear. They want something hard to chew such as teething rings and rusks.
Here are few tips to help your child during teething:
1. Provide your child chilled teething rings that you keep in the fridge (be sure its not frozen, just chilled) so that they can chew on it but make sure it should not be too small in case child swallows it. Teething rings are designed with textures that massage a baby's tender gums. Rubber teething rings are equally good but you must avoid choosing the ones with liquid inside because they may break.
2. Remember, children should never be given aspirin.
3. As the baby drools a lot during this phase so you must try to keep his/her face clean by gently wiping off drool time to time with a clean towel. Due to constant dribbling sometimes child develops a rash on their chin. Regular application of zinc cream may help clear this up.
4. Some parents tie the teething ring around baby's neck which is highly dangerous as it could get caught on something and strangle the baby.
5. An infant older than 3 months can be administered either baby paracetamol or baby ibuprofen, being careful to follow instructions properly. The danger of overdosing is always there.
6. As soon as a teeth appears parents should start cleaning the teeth either with wet, clean cloth or start brushing. Children should not be given toothpaste during this process.
7. Applying soothing teething gel into the effected area with your finger a few times a day will do the trick.
8. Gently rubbing your finger at babies gum can provide relief.
Last, but not the least cuddle your baby and provide them with extra comfort.
