Topping and Tailing Baby

Required Things:

• Changing mat

• Nappies

• Bowl of warm water

• Separate bowl of cooled and boiled water

• Towel

• Cotton wool balls

Procedure:

1. Put your baby on a changing mat.

2. Now remove babies outer clothing, if it is to be changed.

3. Wipe each eye with cooled boiled water with separate cotton balls. The direction should be from inner corner to the outer side (nose to ear).

4. Take fresh cotton wool balls and wipe face, neck and behind ears.

5. Remember babies should be dry enough, check areas such as neck creases where skin rubs together.

6. Wipe her hands with moistened cotton wool, then dry them.

7. Take away nappy and clean the bottom area, using cotton wool or separate flannel. Try to wipe in front to back direction that is from vagina/urethra to the anus. If the nappy is soiled, clean the area with soap.
