Inculcate Good Sportsmanship in Your Kid

The highly competitive surroundings around our kids today may prepare the grounds for a jealous and shrewd approach towards study, competitions and even sports. While the game always needs to be fair, the kids must absorb and appreciate a contender’s win or compete with a positive spirit. We as parents must teach and encourage a healthy competition that approaches the contention with positivity alone and is rid of foul play.
Times today rarely witness a respect for values and tradition, while the generations one after the other take morality for granted, we as parents need to reinforce a constant reminder and learning the true essentials of sportsmanship in our kids.
Sportsmanship isn’t limited to sports alone, the positivity is so infectious that it affects the perception of all life situations and provides a constructive approach to deal with them. In order to encourage them, we first need to inculcate them in our kids with various group and family practices on a day to day level.

• Victory should be the Ultimate Goal
Never get bogged down by dejection of efforts. Keep trying, focus on winning and give your best shot with total determination and honesty.
• Embrace Defeat when it is the Final Verdict
One should be able to accept the verdict even if it’s a lost war. Battling it till the last breath honestly is most important. Teach your kids to accept a defeat and learn from the experience and be capable of appreciation for the opponent’s efforts to win.
• Appreciate the Opponent’s Spirits
A game requires every player to challenge and compete. If the opponents win, it’s because of their efforts and hard work. Teach you kid to appreciate this and learn the good.
• Never Cheat or Indulge in Foul Play
A win through cheating will never stay. What goes around always comes back around. A foul play’s victory will make you lose later. Honesty is the key composition to a good sportsman. Do not cheat and never giving in to it.
• Teamwork – Motivate, Give Opportunity and Share Equal Responsibility
In a team, everyone must get as opportunity to prove their mettle. Allow them the chance. Motivate all the players and encourage them to contribute equally to the game. If the team loses, share the responsibility rather than blaming it on one.
• Respect for All, Opponents and the Team
Respect the other team mates as well as your opponents. All gaming rules and regulations must be abided by and respected at all times. A foundation of a healthy sportsmanship leads to a high spirited approach for life. Inculcate this in your kid.
