The gel is implanted near a cleft or a wound where it helps the overlying skin to grow over itself, covering the cleft or wound. The excess skin can be later used by the doctors to graft the wound, evading any scar marks.

“Hydrogel” can absorb body water once it is implanted and can expand up to 1500 percent of its original size.

It can also be set to grow in any desired direction, revealed the researchers.

The WAIMR researchers, who reported their findings online in the Journal of Cell Biology, claimed they have restored muscle function in mice with one type of FBS by replacing a missing muscle protein.

“The mice with Floppy Baby Syndrome were only expected to live for about nine days, but we managed to cure them so they were born with normal muscle function, allowing them to live naturally and very actively into old age,” Kristen Nowak, the lead author of the study, said.

Interestingly, according to the latest Tobacco Atlas, India ranks third in the top 20 female smoking populations across the globe.

Men who are heavy smokers have a lower concentration of proteins in the testes that are essential for producing sperm, the study revealed.

The biological process that triggers during lactation increases sensitivity to insulin and reduces the formation of belly fat, researchers reasoned.

Details of the study
For the purpose of the study, researchers reviewed previously collected data of 2,233 Californian women aged between 40 and 78 years. 461 women had previously diagnosed type 2 diabetes.

While 1,125 women had breastfed their babies, 703 women had not. 405 participants were issue-less women.

The researchers found that women with diabetes were more likely to be ones who did not breastfeed.

The Times of India quoted lead study author Amina Alio, research assistant professor of community and family health, USF as saying, “Our study suggests that lack of paternal involvement during pregnancy is an important and potentially modifiable risk factor for infant mortality.”

Research details
For the study, researchers evaluated the records of over 1.39 million live births in Florida from 1998 to 2005.
